EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

At-A-Glance


CALLING 911

  • In an emergency, dial: 9-9-1-1
  • When dialing 9-9-1-1, an administrator should be notified as quickly as possible in order to assist
  • Send an adult to the front of the campus to meet and escort emergency personnel to scene
  • Provide First Aid/CPR as needed until help arrives

FIRE

  • Recognize bell tones indicating fire
  • Evacuate students from classroom or immediate area
  • If it's safe to do so, bring radio (if applicable) and backpack (if applicable) from your classroom
  • Turn off lights
  • Close doors, and leave unlocked
  • Egress to line up point
  • If line up point is inaccessible, use your best judgment to determine a safe alternate

EARTHQUAKE

  • Recognize ground shaking
  • Instruct students, and anyone in your area to drop, cover and hold until the shaking stops
  • Evacuate students from classroom or immediate area
  • If it's safe to do so, bring radio (if applicable) and backpack (if applicable) from your classroom
  • Turn off lights
  • Close doors, and leave unlocked
  • Egress to line up point
  • If line up point is inaccessible, use your best judgment to determine a safe alternate
  • Conduct attendance swiftly, and assemble with your teams for a briefing

LOCKDOWN

  • Recognize phone tree call or announcement indicating lockdown
  • Close and lock door
  • Turn off lights
  • Close and lock windows
  • Close drapes/shades/curtains/blinds
  • Silence all cell phone(s) in classroom or immediate area
  • Instruct students to lay down and remain silent
  • Wait for instructions from the Head of School, Safety Director, or Police Department
  • Upon authorized instruction:
  1. Evacuate students from classroom or immediate area
  2. If it's safe to do so, bring radio (if applicable) and backpack (if applicable) from your classroom
  3. Turn off lights
  4. Close doors, and leave unlocked
  5. Egress to line up point
  6. If line up point is inaccessible, use your best judgment to determine a safe alternate


It's important to note, modifications to these procedures will be in effect for alternate scenarios, e.g. a bee swarm may cause a lockdown which would only include the appropriate steps above. Always use your best judgment in an emergency, and remain calm.
