In order to have a successful health office, it must be well-organized and properly equipped with materials and first-aid supplies.

If the office has closet space, it should be filled with substantial amounts of common medical items like

  • Bandages
  • Wraps
  • Band-aids
  • Antibiotic cream
  • Hydrocortisone cream

While these daily treatments will be the most commonly used supplies, a good health office also is prepared for a more serious medical emergency. Have a “go-bag” filled with all consumable supplies for basic first aid, but also a:

  • Stethoscope
  • Blood pressure cuff
  • Opa’s (oropharyngeal airway)
  • Npa’s (nasopharyngeal airway)

Of course, this is not a comprehensive list. Consider storing other life support equipment that would be of use in an extended emergency situation.

Another critical function of your school's health office is to store all sorts of student medications. These medications will likely include emergency medications such as:

  • Epi-pens
  • Inhalers
  • Glucagon pens
  • Daily medications such as ADD/ADHD medicine
  • OTC medications like Advil
  • Antihistamine medication
  • Lots more!
The School Health Coordinator ensures these medications are properly organized and labeled along with the proper forms and signatures from parents.
