As leaders in event operations and logistics, effective incident management is critical for the safety and success of your gatherings. That's why this month's newsletter focuses on optimizing your Event Command Center (ECC) and Incident Command System (ICS).
An ECC provides a central location to coordinate plans, communications, and resources; ICS gives you the standardized structure, roles, and protocol to manage any incident smoothly and efficiently. Together, they allow you to maintain situational awareness and share information, make timely decisions using unified command, deploy resources, request assistance quickly, and document and track all response actions.
To get the most out of your ECC and ICS, here are few key questions to ask yourself and your team to get started:
Do you have clear operating instructions for when command shifts from "normal" procedures into ICS?
Are ICS roles and responsibilities clearly defined and assigned, with staff receiving relevant training and practice opportunities?
If so, bonus points if you can answer the question: "When was the last training?"
What equipment and supplies are available to support ICS teams and what is the process for requesting additional resources if needed?
Properly implementing these practices takes planning but pays dividends during events.
Let us know how we can support your event management preparedness. We hope you find this month's newsletter useful for leveling up your event command capabilities.
Event Command Centers and the Incident Command System
Traditional Event Command Centers (ECC) are at the heart of effective event management and a huge component of event safety. However, the integration of the Incident Command System (ICS) offers new opportunities to apply the same efficiency and effectiveness during emergency response. Our latest blog post considers the value and limitations of these structures, and provides a greater understanding of how merging these systems can fortify your event safety framework.

All Clear! — “A tutorial on how to master panic and turn crisis into calm”
Chris’s book has officially been released, and Katherine Schweit, J.D., CCEP recently shared this about it: "Chris Joffe’s book is a tutorial on how to master panic and turn crisis into calm. The secrets he shares in All Clear focus on the real-life lessons he learned about the value of working with the people around you, not in spite of them.
From the time he was plucked from his mother’s arms and dropped into foster care, Chris Joffe clearly has been mastering how to communicate and empower people around him during a crisis. You will want to join him after reading All Clear."
